Self Portrait, Iphone video capture through the eyepiece of a microscope
A project involving the digitization of my family’s photograph collection in 2006 prompted an immediate fascination with what is thought to be the first photograph of myself taken on May 7th, 1982. This piece depicts the impossibility of discovering likeness through photographic record.
About the process:
The print was placed under a stereomicroscope and was illuminated using fiber optics. The video capture was made with an iphone which was placed up to the eyepiece. Very slight adjustments to its position were made in an attempt to capture the image. The sound was recorded from the lull of the fiber optic lamp-house fan.
